After studying art at Hamilton College, Starrett moved to New York City in 1996 to work in fashion for Isaac Mizrahi. After a year, she realized that decorating and architecture were her passions and attended the New York School of Interior Design for its graduate program. The ensuing years were spent working for design luminary Fernando Santangelo, whom she still considers her mentor, as well as Jonathan Adler and André Balazs. Starrett founded her company, Starrett Hoyt LLC, in 2014 with an aim to offer clients a disruptive and unique approach with a flat fee billing system.
Starrett’s interior work is known for her keen sense of color, daring glamour and unfussy comfort. She herself is known for her approachable, fun, and spirited personality that she brings with her to her projects and client relationships. Her work has been featured in Domino Magazine, House Beautiful, AD’s Clever and the Wall Street Journal.
